    Friday Futsal

It was a very interesting and pretty positive response for futsal in Sportbarn organized by my company ( cb 4 people fong fei kei ! from my department one, cau hai ! ), 12 people turned up last Friday. Futsal needs very little space, teams can be made up of a small number of players and the sport is fast and easy to enjoy. We played 2 hours and i scored one goal ;)

    Big Man Small Brain

I'm currently playing this online game call "RAN Online", it's a free MMORPG campus based online game. I started my own guild there, i'm in the Top10 list ( my respective school ), i got to know a lot of friends there and i started this game rather innocuously enough. For me personally, i think the guild war is the best. We have like 3 different schools fighting for 4 different castles every Wednesday & Saturday, the winner of course gain gold and fame. Starting to like this game?

Anyway, it's Wednesday, GUILD WAR ! We ( me and rest of the guild members ) polish off rather quickly, attack our usual target ( TradingHole castle ) and it was fully shit-housed - millions ( ok only like hundred - im just making big numbers here ) of people inside. And the real-pain-in-the-ass was when we couldnt even find a spot to gather and even if we do, it has got to be the dirtiest, poorest, shittiest looking crack addict spot. And much to our displeasure, we decided to change castle.

Now this castle we are going is normally heavily guarded by a guild from the same school, a frequent winner there - lets call them Guild X from now. They have the reputation in this game and the strongest guild in my school. As we all know, there are friendly fire in war, heavy fuxing casualties, miscommunication, its either u die or i die - as simple as that. As the war ended, we both guild lost. The castle went to another guild from a different school, pretty disappointed but hey the best one wins - simple rule of the game. And the next thing i know, the other members from guild X started to shout in public that we actually caused them the throne, we are the main culprit of their losses. This drives me nuts. Not only does it present logistical problems in finding fault with me and my guild but also a complete blasphemy firing on us. I don't act aloof or bored like a poser thinks a cool guy is supposed to act; instead I engage the public conversation defending my people and myself. In my first sentence, i said "it's just a game" followed by my second "i dont have problems with you or anyone or any guild, this is guild war and its meant to be WAR". The next thing i know, this so call "friend" of mine private message me and asked about my location. He wanted to confront me in real life or put it in a more simple language - he wants to whack me.

I met this guy a couple of times before, pretty OK guy but i don't have any idea what their losses have to do wit me. Its just a fuxing game dude, not a test of who's the alpha-male here. You don't have to threaten me in real life though you have connections with the "black & white" people. It's just a fuxing game ! You play and enjoy the damm game. My response is the first aggressive move - I dismiss the notion that I am going against him or his guild, I display my dominance with my maturity and told him ITS JUST A FUXING GAME. This also places a subconscious thought in his about coming to "meet" me. Now he's thinking about it.

What's the worst that can happen? I got beat up like shit or ended up in hospital. Oh well, if only my 30 friends were together with me that time allow it to happen. I'm not saying that i'm great, but then at least i can differentiate GAME and REAL LIFE. I'm most disappointed with another friend who used to hangout with us. He was in guild X and he couldn't even understand all these and instead he stepped up to the plate and took his cuts.

He didn't turn up and i was glad, otherwise it would be a shame to see some "Die Hard" actions because of misunderstanding in the cyber world. I'm writing this with a calm but authoritative manner; my delivery is pretty dead pan without being cheesy or backing into it. This lets everybody know, there are "funny" people in this world.

    Romance Of The Three Kingdoms

Didn't do much or go anywhere this weekend, and i found this link from a friend. YES !!! to all
old school gamerz, we can now play RTK on Windows XP !
So wtf is RTK? Anyone familiar with KOEI will recognize the company as the developer of the brilliant computer series Romance of the Three Kingdoms, which later gave birth to the Kessen series for the Playstation. This is the second game in the series, and is just packed with action.

The game is based on the rivalry between Liu Bei and Cao Cao, two leading figures in Ancient China. You are free to choose between 12 different leaders. Each one of these has a different starting position and generals. And it supports up to 12 players in multiplayer-mode.

The music sux big time and the graphic of course, old school style ( wtf DOS based, what do u expect ). The object of the game is to conquer the whole of China, and with 11 rivals this is not an easy task. A good tip would be to start making alliances right away. And if you go to war, use several generals, and divide your army into separate groups. Romance of the Three Kingdoms II uses a very nice attack feature called simultaneously attack, which means that several troops can attack at once. And each unit can attack once with the support of the other troops, so if you have an enemy surrounded with four troops, you get a whoopin total of 16 attacks (4x4).

All in all this is an excellent strategy game, with excellent battle-controls and a really magnificent political system. With options like bad propaganda, bribing, assassinations, alliances, and of course duels between the leaders. If a leader refuses to fight man to man, he will be considered a coward, and some of his men will flee. The game is just perfect, and a must have.

p/s : you need to download the DosBox if you are running Windows XP, kongming.net has a comprehensive guide on it.

Top 10 e-commerce developments of the decade

Google has topped a list of the 10 most significant e-commerce developments of the past 10 years, as chosen by staff of the Software & Information Industry Association, a trade association for the software and digital information industry.

Ken Wasch, President of SIIA, said: "It's no surprise to see Google rank as the most important e-commerce development in the last 10 years. But the list also includes several e-commerce tools that have become so commonplace, we almost forget they didn't exist 10 years ago."
    SIIA's Top 10

    1. Google (September 1998): Google did more to fundamentally change the way we use the internet than any other event in the last 10 years. Americans conducted 6.9 billion searches online in February 2007 and nearly half of those were on Google.
    2. Broadband penetration of US internet users reaches 50 per cent (June 2004): It took broadband roughly four years to reach 50 per cent – but it is estimated that it will reach 90 per cent penetration of internet users by the end of 2007.
    3. eBay Auctions (launched September 1997): The launch empowered hundreds of thousands of power sellers to quit their day jobs and work exclusively online. Individuals could also compete directly with each other in ways unimaginable in a physical market.
    4. Amazon.com (IPO May 1997): Amazon showed the world what an online store would look like and made online shopping popular through its ease of use and wide selection. Amazon's public offering told the world that online commerce is legitimate and here to stay.
    5. Google AdWords (2000): Keyword advertising has become the biggest online advertising vehicle, representing 40 per cent of that market and $6.8bn in revenue.
    6. Open standards (HTML 4.0 released 1997): The standards for the web embodied in HTML are overseen by the World Wide Web Consortium, which is not controlled by any company or government. The formats are open, well documented and designed to work with different software and hardware. It has probably been the most influential and important data standard in the history of publishing.
    7. Wi-Fi (802.11 launched 1997): The development of Wi-Fi removed the limitations of desktops and cables and shifted focus toward mobile solutions.
    8. User-generated content (YouTube launched 2005): At first a playground for kids with video cameras, YouTube is now the embodiment of Web 2.0.
    9. iTunes (2001): In the aftermath of Napster and the P2P battles, iTunes legitimised the digital music industry, revolutionising the music industry. The importance of CDs declined while music as digital content grew, leading to developments in everything from Digital Rights Management software to increased bandwidth use. Today, more than $2bn worth of music was sold online or through mobile phones in 2006 (trade revenues), almost doubling the market in the last year. Digital sales now account for around 10 per cent of the music market.
    10. BlackBerry (1999): The BlackBerry makes communication instantaneous, and mobile. A comprehensive communications device creates a new mobile business culture.

    Movie Influence

I haven't see the box office movie Transformer yet but i know it's one hell of a great show, everyone knows, Donz knows. He confirmed it with me this morning. Got this message on MSN from him this morning :

    Tsiu Weng says:
Hello human ... I'm Optimus Prime from the planet Cybertron

    erimin.blogspot.com says:
u watch the damm show alrdy?

    Tsiu Weng says:
You are insignificant human .... I'm Optimus Prime, leader of the Autobots

    erimin.blogspot.com says:
so Optikus Prime, where did u watch tht show?

    Tsiu Weng says:
Do not belittle me human .... the fate of your world lies in my hands

    erimin.blogspot.com says:
    yah my balls r trembling

    Tsiu Weng says:
balls? ... why do you humans have balls?

    erimin.blogspot.com says:
damm i thought u knew everything, u didnt install wikipedia ?

    Tsiu Weng says:
Wikipedia? ... we are advanced mechanical beings ... we have no use for ... this ... wik ... wikipedia thing that you are describing

    erimin.blogspot.com says:
    then why so noob

    Tsiu Weng says:
noob? ... I have no interest in talking to puny humans that are of limited intelligence ...

Somehow i think the influence of different types of "transformer" winding connections on the propagation of voltage sags caused by symmetrical and asymmetrical faults in Donz's power system is pretty serious.

    A Chat With Mum

Have you ever had a quiet chat with Mum or Dad if you have any concerns? I don't quite talk to my family, for a couple of years already. Ever since i started working, i seldom talk to any of my family members. Cant blame anyone but myself though, i could've easily put this blame on my work.

Last Sunday I had to buy a sympathy card. Someone I know has died. I didn't know his Dad that well, and I don't know his mum at all, but this friend of mine gave the time to us when we needed it, so I am sending a card. I've set aside some time this afternoon to compose a note to go with it together with some "cash" ( Chinese culture ) of course. And somehow it just made me realized that one day, my parents will "go" too. Kinda sad, but hey...sometimes the truth hurts.

I remember dear told me before I should spend more time with my family. So for the first time after so many years, i got back home this evening and had a short chat with my mum. As we chat, i noticed mum is getting old. I could see lotsa white hairs and wrinkles. Pain in the ass eh? Yah exactly what i felt. Mum used to be energetic ( still now ), with not-so-much-white-hair and she has been with my Dad for like almost 40 years. She's a housewife - dedicated one, she married to my dad and has been housekeeping us ever since. Tell me which woman doesn't like shopping, makeups, dress up like a barbie doll or hangout with friends during their free time. My mum totally sacrifice all that for the family. Very noble isn't it. I believe many mums out there are like that, so start to respect women.

In my twenty-nine years, she's been my mother, my taskmaster, my confidant, my co-conspirator and, sometimes, even my loan officer. She taught me an awful lot, perhaps more important lessons than I learned in all of my formal education. My mum was not just my mother. She was the central hub of our family. The keystone in the arch. The foundation of our lives. I am much of who I am today because of her ( exclude the asshole-ing part ). She has never been just my mother, but my guardian angel, my friend and my inspiration.

See the fun of chatting with mum? When you face a problem, you will probably have many questions and think how good it would be to have someone you can share your feelings with. Mum and Dad experienced the highs and lows of growing up, achieving greater independence and responsibility and probably some of the same embarrassing moments you may go through in the next few years. How about having a quiet chat with Mum or Dad?

    Boring Friday

Nabeh just came back from lunch, guess i wont have the time to update my blog tonite....hmm better update it now since i'm pretty free. This is gonna be a motherfuxing long entry...so stay awake. Check out this entry from TheReg :

Woman arrested for WoW love affair

She was a 31 mage, he was a 17 warrior. Unfortunately, we're talking about their ages

An Australian woman is facing child abduction charges in the US after trying to bring her 17-year-old World of Warcraft boyfriend back to Oz.

Tamara Broome, a 31-year-old university student, was arrested on June 26 after she flew from Adelaide to the boy's home in Greenville, North Carolina to pick up her internet beau.Click here to find out more!

Broome allegedly had an online relationship with the boy for more than a year, which began in the online game World of Warcraft. The two had also exchanged copious amounts of email and even discussed marriage.

The Azerothian love-affair has sent Broome to Pitt County Detention Centre where she will get a July 11 court date. Police have seized her laptop computer and charged Broome with attempting to abduct a child. If convicted she will face more than two years in a US jail. Broome is currently being held on a $2.35m bond.

(WoW equipment could not be seized by authorities, as it is soulbound.)

    Tamara Broome

    Tamara Broome

According to Australian news sources, Broome's relatives allege the teenager's parents set her up, even springing for the air fare to frame her.

But Pitt County Sheriff detectives call the allegations "ridiculous," claiming they will not discuss who fronted for the ticket "because that's part of the evidence, we can't get into that."

Authorities became involved when the parents reported the boy missing June 12. He was found later that day at Raleigh-Durham International Airport trying to catch a flight to Australia to see the woman. Investigators later discovered that Broome was coming to the US and apprehended her as she stepped of a train at Rocky Mount station in North Carolina.

Under North Carolina law, a minor is considered someone under the age of 18.

Besides, any WoW player could tell you in a 18/31 spread, the experience would be lousy anyway. ®

Knn, luckily it never happen to the online game im playing. Wtf is wrong with the world these days.

    ==================================================================

One of my colleague resigned from his current position, she's gonna be with us for another 2 more weeks and thats about it. I got new colleagues every month and there are leavers every month too. Guess this is common in a large organization, thats why they are spending so much on human resources boo-yah! I've been working for quite some time and i guess there are things that you can / cant do in the office that a of lot of you working people out there should know. In other words, how should you behave in the office?
    1. NEVER WALK WITHOUT A DOCUMENT IN YOUR HANDS
People with documents in their hands look like hardworking employees heading for important meetings. People with nothing in their hands look like they're heading to eat. People with a newspaper in their hands look like heading for the toilet. Above all, make sure you carry fux lotsa stuff home with you at night, thus generating the false impression that you work longer hours than you do.

    2. USE COMPUTERS TO LOOK BUSY
Any time you use a computer, it "looks" like work to the casual observer. You can send and receive personal email , chat, blog and generally have a blast without doing anything remotely related to work. These arent exactly the societal benefits that the proponents of the computer revolution would like to talk about but they're not bad either. When you get caught by your boss - and you will get caught - your best defense is to claim you're teaching yourself to use the new software, thus saving valuable training expenses.

    3. MESSY DESK
Top management can get away with a clean desk. For the rest of us, it looks like we're not working hard enough. Build huge piles of documents around your workspace. To the observer, last year's work looks the same as today's work; its volume that counts. Pile them high and wide! If you know somebody is coming to your desk, bury the document you'll need halfway down in an existing stack and rummage for it when she/he arrives.

    4. Voice Mail
Never answer your phone if you do have voice mail. People dont call you just because they want to give you something for nothing - they call because they want you to do work for them. That's not way to live. Screen all your calls through voice mail. If somebody leaves a voice message for you and it sounds like impending work, respond during lunch hour when you know they're not there - it looks like you're hardworking and conscientious even though you're being a devious weavel.

    5. Looking impatient and annoyed
Always try to look impatient and annoyed to give your bosses the impression that you are always busy.

    6. Leave the office late
Always leave the office late, especially when the boss is still around. You could read magazines, blog or just surf any porn sites until late before leaving. Make sure you walk pass the boss room on your way out. Send important emails at unholy hours ( e.g 9.35pm, 7.05am ) and during public holidays.

    7. Creative sighing for effect
Sigh loudly when there are many people around, giving the impression that you are under extreme pressure.

    8. Stacking Strategy
It is not enough to pile lots of documents on the table. Put lots of books on the floor, thick computer manuals are the best.

    9. Build Vocabulary
Read up on some computer magazines and pick out all the jargon and new products. Use the phrases freely when in conversation with bosses. Remember, they dont have to understand what you say, but you will sound impressive.

    10. Have 2 jackets
If you work in a big open plan office, always leave a spare jacket draped over the back of your seat. This gives the impression that you are still on the premises. The second jacket should be worn while swanning around elsewhere.

    Busy Day

Yesterday was filled with tedious busy work, way too busy and don't even have the time to go for a dump. Do you guys have a todo list? or do you rely on your memory to remind you what you need to do today? If your todo list is anything like most, the things that you have marked important and urgent are sitting in the top one or two spots, with all the other items sitting further down the list.

Now if you had your choice, which item would you choose to do first?

That's right, the easy ones. Most people choose those items they think they will be able to do quickly and easily, leaving them plenty of time to do those other items they really don't want to do, or are afraid of doing. Putting off difficult decisions doesn't make them easier, in fact the opposite is usually the case.

The peak of yesterday's working scene was when Steven went to server farm and backup the databases. He restarted the server and had a hard disk force check. We both predicted the server will reboots back in less than 5 minutes and boy ohh boy...we definitely overseen this. The force check ( on Linux ) took more than an hour and luckily it rebooted back without any error, otherwise we both would in deep shit.

Believe it or not, we have all been given the same amount of time every day that we can use. And we can use it any way that we want. It's true! The difference between those people who achieve their dreams and goals and those who don't isn't about luck, or being in the right place at the right time. No, the answer is far simpler than that. The people who achieve their dreams and goals are those people who spend their time wisely. They know that if they spend 2 hours a night watching the television, they won't have time to do anything else. A case of stating the blindingly obvious perhaps, but somethings just need saying.

    It's a simple equation:

24 hours in a day (yes really, sounds a lot doesn't it - but you still need to do some maths)
Take away the time that you spend sleeping
Take away the time that you spend getting ready for work, travelling to work, and the hours that you are actually working (as opposed to the time that you sit at your desk and pretending)
Take away the time travelling home, cooking dinner, supervising homework and/or doing chores and what have you got left?

The answer is NOT VERY MUCH.

But if you want to work it out, I would say you have between 2 and 4 hours per week day to spend on things you want to do, as opposed to doing things that you have to do. Of course, you could tell yourself that you'll do it on the weekend - but we all know what happens on a weekend. We get distracted by other people and their expectations of what we should be doing. Why do we allow ourselves to be distracted by people and things that take our energy and move us away from where we say we want to be? Every day we get nudged a little bit further off course, and most of the time we don't even know that's it's happening.

And then of course there are the technological distractions that fill our days with endless chatter. It has been said that for every distraction it takes another 8 minutes for your creative brain to return to the frame of mind where it can "work" properly. The problem I have found is that I don't get 8 uninterrupted minutes before the next distraction.

    So what can you do?

    * Turn off the tv.
    * Turn off the email and the constant reminders that pop up to tell you that you have new mail. Better still, only log onto your mail once or twice a day.
    * Turn off the MSN chatter and get on with your work, better still turn off the damn computer and go and get some exercise.
    * Work out what you don't need to do, and don't do it.

If it does actually needs doing - then work out whether it's worth you spending your time doing the task or if it can be done by someone else.

Busy work is rarely productive work. Busy work does not bring in the money. Busy work allows us to pretend that we have achieved great things in a day, when in reality we are stuck on a turntable - going nowhere fast.
